Countertops and Driveway

Now I feel like countertops are the icing on the cake or the bow on a present that really ties everything together. Honestly, it felt like one of the biggest decisions, but surprisingly it turned out to be one of our quickest (and maybe even one of our easiest) choices so far.

And I know I’ve said this before, but I truly never thought I’d get so excited over a driveway. I feel like I’ve officially crossed into full adulthood. lol”

Countertops

Now, Nick and I were a little divided at first when it came to our vision for the kitchen countertops. I was leaning toward something simple while Nick wanted something moodier and louder. Honestly, I love being challenged by his bold taste because I really believe you should push yourself outside your comfort zone, and this was one of those moments for me.

Another big thing for us was running the countertops all the way up the wall. (Book matching is a whole separate story and we’ll save that deep dive for another day, lol.)

Of course, we went dark and moody for the first-floor bathroom, and with the black and white tile in the laundry room we thought that was the perfect spot for another bold dark countertop too.

Then there’s Phi Peace. It was truly love at first sight. I knew right away it had to go in our primary bathroom. At some point, I’m not even sure exactly when, we just knew it needed to be in the kitchen too. We were honestly struggling with the kitchen choice for a bit, but once you see the video I think you’ll fall in love with it just like we did.

The irony? We ended up picking something that’s actually way more my style in the end. So I guess I tried to be moody and bold for the kitchen, but simple and classic won out anyway. Typical!

Driveway

Like I said, I never imagined the driveway being a feature moment, but with our lot being so unique, we really had two options: either have a steep driveway, which sounded like an absolute nightmare in the winter, or do some retaining walls and have the driveway cross in front of the house to create a more gradual slope into the garage.

When I first heard ‘retaining wall,’ I didn’t think it would end up being as gorgeous as it turned out to be. We have a beautiful rock retaining wall on the left side, and probably my favorite part, on the right side, they were able to use natural stone straight from our lot. Once we get our landscaping in, I really do see this becoming an absolutely beautiful entry to our home.

What comes next, you might ask?

The list is definitely dwindling as we get closer to our move-in date, but there’s still plenty of exciting things on deck. Paint should be starting soon, and then our actual deck will be going up too. I can already picture it: wine in one hand, a book in the other, and Nick grilling up some dinner. Stay tuned for more!
